Social Media Makes Everyone an Oscar Critic
Last night, while critiquing James Franco and Anne Hathaway’s hosting abilities from the comfort of my kitchen table, I saw a tweet that said something like, “Does social media make the Oscars and award shows more fun to watch?”
Very simply, yes, it does.
Social media gives us a platforms to essentially have the same opportunity as say, People or Joan Rivers, to give our opinions on everything from what the stars are wearing and the red carpet interviews, to the quality of the acceptance speeches and how funny (or not funny) the telecast was.
You no longer need to wait until the next day to play Monday morning quarterback over the water cooler at work. You can deliver immediate, opinionated responses to what is happening at that exact time.
No, you may not have a TV camera staring back at you, but social media has given you a voice that otherwise may not have been heard unless you had the backing of a major TV network or publishing company.

I definitely think it's more fun! Especially when you can get instant reactions from friends watching elsewhere. I also find that reading the posts the next day sometimes remind me of something I may have forgotten or draws my attention to whatever I missed. I also love the anonymous and funny snarky commentary available.
Can I host next year if I promise to be more coherent than James Franco?
